Set in the west-side of Los Angeles fight world, a world inhabited by bouncers, cage-fighters, cops and special forces types, Redbelt, is the story of Mike Terry (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a Jiu-jitsu teacher who has avoided the prize fighting circuit, choosing instead to pursue an honorable life by operating a self-defense studio with a samurai’s code. Terry and his wife Sondra (Alice Braga), struggle to keep the business running to make ends meet. An accident on a dark, rainy night at the Academy between an off duty officer (Max Martini) and a distraught lawyer (Emily Mortimer) puts in motion a series of events that will change Terry’s life dramatically introducing him to a world of promoters (Ricky Jay, Joe Mantegna) and movie star Chet Frank (Tim Allen). Faced with this, in order to pay off his debts and regain his honor, Terry must step into the ring for the first time in his life. www.blacktree.tv

Here you go, folks. A real boxing movie (Xander Cohen) with a real boxer (former pro) doing real boxing (nothing choreographed) in a real boxing gym (world famous Wild Card Boxing Gym). Make sure and put “h t t p : / / w w w . y o u t u b e . c o m” at the beginning of each link (with no spaces, of course). Check it out!

while the movie is not saying any particular tournament is fixed, with anything in which there are large sums involved, one should consider the possibility. I really enjoyed the movie and thought it was inspirational. Ending was a bit bland, but gave you hope.
February 2, 2010 at 4:44 pm
This movie was perfect up until the last 5 minutes. They should have done a better job with a bit more effort.
February 2, 2010 at 5:17 pm
they say fighting in a tournament is not fighting because there are rules. in a real fight you do what you have to to walk away. they dont say mma is fake or setup. just the tournament in the movie is
February 2, 2010 at 5:28 pm

Mamet Is Mamet. With him straight lines or conformity does not exist,
February 2, 2010 at 7:56 pm
The director David Mamet practices BJJ and wanted to make a movie involving BJJ. He’s not saying MMA is fake or set-up he’s just likes to make a world unto itself, this film is influenced heavily by Noir which usually invovles a conspiracy of some kind as well as western and samurai genres.

one of the only movies that teaches the reality of self-defense vs. competition. with the real meaning of respect.

focus less on what fighting is in the movie, and more on the story line and acting. its a few steps from brilliant i know, but its still a great movie to watch. easily watchable twice. its way less corny than never back down or fighting, theres alot more deeper meaning and more adult appeal in this movie. its actually serious.
