The history of modern MMA competition can be traced to mixed style contests throughout Europe, Japan and the Pacific Rim during the early 1900s; the Gracie family’s vale tudo martial arts tournaments in Brazil starting in the 1920s; and early mixed martial arts matches hosted by Antonio Inoki in Japan in the 1970s. The sport gained international exposure and widespread publicity in the United States in 1993, when Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter Royce Gracie handily won the first Ultimate Fighting Championship tournament, submitting three challengers in just five minutes,[10] sparking a revolution in the martial arts.[11] Meanwhile in Japan the continued interest in the sport resulted in the creation of the PRIDE Fighting Championships in 1997.[12] The movement that led to the creation of the UFC and PRIDE was rooted in two interconnected subcultures. First were the vale tudo events in Brazil, followed by the Japanese shoot wrestling shows. Vale tudo began in the 1920s with the “Gracie challenge” issued by Carlos Gracie and Hélio Gracie and upheld later on by descendants of the Gracie family.[5] In Japan in the 1970s, a series of mixed martial arts matches were hosted by Antonio Inoki, inspiring the shoot-style movement in Japanese professional wrestling, which eventually led to the formation of the first mixed martial arts organizations, such as Shooto, which was formed in 1985.

Is everyone paying attention? This is reason why knockouts via GnP are generally worthless in terms of gauging striking power, unless we’re counting blows. They’re all fight-ending shots. Leverage matters.

1 pound at 5 miles/(sec x sec) acceleration comes out around 1800 pounds of force

remember, in order to break something, you need a hardness factor in there as well. As here, a skull would not break vs. padded fists.

Actually DROPPING a car, from any height, would actually be more in the range of 10k-50k lbs on impact, depending on the height it’s dropped from. It’s when the car is just sitting on you not moving that it’s 2,000 lbs. Same with Couture… the man doesn’t eight 2,000 lbs., but the force it strikes with might be that. You know, when the average person runs, they put out about 1000 lbs. of pressure each time their foot hits the ground. Add in training, and it piles up quick.

ya, whenever power is a main factor in a sport you are bound to have some people that wanna cheat… and while I dont practice to much MMA, after seeing the way a certain fighter fights, I can slowly pic apart his game, and figure how I would beat him.

I know a bit about mma, as I have done several styles as well as dabbled a little in mma, of course there are some fighters that take steroids, it is inevitable in a sport where strength and power comes into play. I am not saying Randy is, as I don’t know that, but there has been several cases. Shean “muscleshark” sherk, Phil Baroni, etc.

LOL.. Fail… Crash Test Dummys were developed in the 40’s, 1st airbag was fitted in the 70’s… Either the person who invented crash test dummies was a clairvoyant soothsayer, or you’re a retard.
